BITRUS J. BULAMA
Biography
Mr. B. J. Bulama is a highly innovative and commercially-oriented lawyer with cognate experience in the legal, energy, transactional, compliance, policy and corporate environments in both the United Kingdom and the Nigerian jurisdictions. He holds an LL.M in Petroleum Law and Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee, UK. He also holds an LL.B (Hons) (2.1) from University of Jos, Nigeria and BL (2.1) from the Nigerian Law School respectively. Upon qualifying as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria he lectured briefly at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, Nigeria and subsequently practised law as a Legal Counsel/Associate in the Law Firm of Kayode (SAN) & Co. in Abuja, Nigeria before proceeding to the University of Dundee for his Post-Graduate studies. He was until his voluntary resignation in February, 2013 a Contracts Manager with SSE Plc, United Kingdom (UK’s 2nd largest energy company).
With 17 years post-call/qualification experience as a lawyer, he is a member of many professional bodies, both national and international. He is a Graduate Member of Energy Institute, London; Member of Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN); Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK; Member of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); Member of Young International Arbitration Group of the London Court of International Arbitration as well as Graduate Member of the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Mr. Bulama is currently a Doctoral student at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
His areas of specialty and interests include (but not limited) to Litigation, Commercial Arbitration, Debt Recovery, Negotiation and Management of Energy/Power and Oil & Gas Transactions, Regulatory Compliance, Due Diligence, Project Finance and Risk Management, Corporate Governance and Policy Advisory, etc. He has attended several international seminars and courses and has written a number of academic Papers/Articles.
Mr. Bulama is married and enjoys traveling, reading, playing squash, table tennis and meeting new people
